The Traveler's Ten Commandments: A Book About Being Yourself

The Traveler’s Ten Commandments  (in Spanish: El decálogo del Caminante) is one of the most inspiring books ever written in Spanish. The writer is Manuel Pimental, the former Labor Minister, who resigned from that position because he disagreed with the way the government conducted politics, and a guru on human relations.

In this book, Pimentel describes  ten beautiful commandments that invite people to be themselves, follow their dreams and desires and are always looking for ways to move on to live life with all its wisdom and happiness.

Path to Happiness

The Traveller’s Ten Commandments

Below, we’ll dive into lessons from Manuel Pimentel’s fantastic book, The Traveller’s Ten Commandments. Unfortunately, the book is only available in Spanish. These are the  ten ideas that will make your life happier and fuller.

  1. The traveler’s ten commandments  invite us to have dreams, ideals and goals. These are the things that lead us to our destiny and give meaning to our lives as we search for our individual life path.
  2. It is important to set achievable goals,  otherwise we will be crushed by them and it can lead to frustration. On the other hand, they should not be too short in duration, as this can lead to resignation and boredom.
  3. Don’t just be happy when you have achieved your goals. You can enjoy every step  and take advantage of every detail you find every day.
  4. When you’ve reached your goal, don’t stop. Look for a new target. A life without projects has nothing to strive for. Always look for other challenges that give your life more meaning.
  5. Stay well grounded in reality, but trust your talent and let your dreams carry you. Rushing isn’t good, it just keeps you falling over the bumps. Keep looking to the horizon and your path will be clear and bright. It is also important not to cut off the road. Follow your path with certainty of what you are doing.
  6. Another wonderful lesson we learn in  The Ten Commandments of the Traveler  is related to the big picture. Your path must integrate the hard times and the happy times. Don’t isolate or dwell on the bad experiences. Create your own sea of all that you have experienced and learn from the past so that your future holds more hope.
  7. When you meet another traveler, they will recognize you by everything you project. You may think you know one way, but the traveler will recognize your true nature through your actions and behavior. Stop making excuses and take responsibility for how you went through your life.
  8. Be cohesive. Your person and your personality should always go together so that you feel better. Otherwise the path will be harder and heavier.
  9. Your actions are what define your life’s work. Your personality and yourself are one and the same. That said, evolve around your own ideals and dreams and be the hero of your own existence, steadfast in the background.
  10. Remember that you are never alone on this path. As you follow the path, you will meet people who, just like you, follow their own path to realize their dreams and ideals. Be generous and help others. Let others help you too.
