Does Your Country Of Origin Influence Your Personality?

Does your country of origin influence your personality?

How does the country you were born in affect your personality? This question has been asked by many thinkers and scientists. The answers to this question range from things like geographical predestination to a universal human essence.

The culture you grow up in definitely has a big influence on the way you think and feel. It also influences the formation of your self-image. It is not so much that there is a national way of being, but rather that each country has certain predominant characteristics and values.

This happened, for example, with the Jews, who came to be known as ‘traitors’. Or the Indians, who were said to be underhanded, dirty, and depraved. Or the Vietnamese, who would be bloodthirsty, flabby and insane. And so on.

Principled Characteristics and Stereotypes

In order to define the ‘way of being’, we often see a division based on cultural origin that creates different blocs: Anglo-Saxons, Latin Americans and Asians. While each of these blocs includes countries between which there are important differences, there are some characteristics that these countries have in common.

Personality
It is said that Anglo-Saxons are mainly characterized by their individualism. This makes them quite reserved, independent and practical. They are often competitive and value freedom and autonomy above all.

They value precision, rigor and methods. They are generally thought to be systematic. They see a sense of humor as an expression of intelligence, not a mood. The concepts of success and failure are deep within them, and they organize their lives around this.

Asians often have a deep respect for authority and can be very demanding of themselves. In Asian countries there is an enormous amount of respect for all types of hierarchies, so much so that we can almost speak of worship. Certain institutions such as the family, religion, politics, etc. are therefore sacred.

These are disciplined people who glorify respect and tolerance for others. All their actions must be in accordance with these ethical principles. Above all, they value one’s ability to work and to be honorable.

Personality

Latin Americans are associated with people skills, good conversations and extroversion. It is said that they don’t value standards as much, preferring instead to indulge in the pleasures of life. They are creative, hospitable, cordial and generous.

They can give up their professional success in exchange for a quieter life with friends and family. They have a great sense of humor and they like to express how they feel, preferably through art. They are known as the best lovers and they are very attached to their families.

I like authentic people, without artifice
