Do You Suffer From Hidden Depression?

Do you suffer from a hidden depression?

Hidden depression is something that is not often talked about. This is a very worrying fact when we consider that cases of depression worldwide have increased more than most other diseases and conditions. However, the symptoms often go unnoticed, even to the person who suffers from them.

There may be many people around the world who really need help, but who have not yet become aware of it themselves. The problem is that in most cases a problematic mental or emotional state of mind becomes more complex and acute if not treated in time. In addition, it can of course cause all kinds of negative symptoms. Which then affect the person’s social and physical health.

It is important not to overlook feelings of lack of acceptance or feelings of disappointment when this is the case. Don’t think of these feelings as an enemy. They can alert you to a deeper problem. It is also important not to ignore the following symptoms, which are typical symptoms of hidden depression.

Wanting to stay stuck in a routine, a sign of hidden depression

People tend to form routines to make their lives easier. Especially to simplify tasks that are already somewhat more routine in nature. If every day were completely different from the previous one, it would cost us far too much mental energy to constantly adapt to it. Routine is basically positive when it comes to actions that do not require a new approach or angle. It is also quite normal to feel the urge to look for stability in the most important aspects of our lives.

Our routine becomes problematic when it causes boredom or causes everything to stagnate. There may be hidden depression if the routine we cling to does not generate well-being in our lives. And also when every change arouses aversion or irritation. It should be seen as a problem if you tend to just let time pass because of a lack of interest or lack of confidence in the changes around you.

The urge to lie constantly

People who often lie about simple issues related to their lives may also suffer from hidden depression. When asked how they are doing, they always answer that everything is fine. Even though this answer is far from true. If people react to the fact that they seem ‘lax’, they will simply say that they are tired. They try to avoid conversations about their true state of mind. They sometimes make up stories about what they do in their spare time.

It is quite normal for them to make up an excuse when plans are made. They are afraid of social gatherings. And while their routine is boring, they’re actually afraid to do anything different than usual. They don’t want others to know how they are really doing. They intentionally hide this information because they know something isn’t right. But they still want to keep this a secret.

Feeling uncomfortable around other people

People with hidden depression tend to be lonely. Systematic isolation, with no apparent purpose, is an undeniable sign that something is wrong with our emotions. In this case, it’s not that these people are shy or introverted, but that it annoys them to have someone by their side.

Most of the conversations they are involved in are actually quite superficial or artificial in nature. As if they are programmed and premeditated, rather than natural. People with hidden depression only talk about general topics, topics that don’t affect them personally. If someone wants to know more about their life, not just try to be polite and start a trusting relationship, they try to steer clear of the conversation. They make it clear that they don’t want others to get too close to them. They can smile and be friendly. However, they always put up a barrier when others try to get to know them better.

Excessive consumption of stimulants

Ee is another symptom that can warn us of a hidden depression. The overuse of certain stimulants. Those who suffer from this problem, without realizing it, try to compensate for their feeling of emptiness and disinterest. This with the help of chemical and biological stimuli that allow them to feel a little better.

They often consume alcohol, foods high in sugar, or excess caffeine. These three substances provide a stimulation that is experienced as necessary. Signs to indicate that there is more than just regular consumption are the frequency and amount in which these substances are consumed.

Hidden depression can often cause other symptoms as well. These include sleep problems, changes in eating habits, a feeling of emptiness and abandonment. But also lack of interest in most activities and feelings of discomfort in the stomach and intestines.

If you know someone who has some or many of these symptoms, it’s important to keep an eye on that person. Respect his/her privacy, but be affectionate and willing to listen and support him/her. If you suspect that you yourself may be suffering from hidden depression, take this very seriously. Sometimes taking small therapeutic measures or trying some kind of short therapy is enough to get rid of that dissatisfaction that prevents you from enjoying life.
